Profile of the Swiss Society of Agronomy

The Swiss Society of Agronomy (SSA) was founded in 1992. It aims to serve as platform for researchers and stakeholders involved in applied research in crop science and plant production. The society aims to promote and encourage research and education in all branches of plant production and to facilitate cooperation and knowledge transfer. The executive board comprises 5 members from different research disciplines and institutions which are elected for a maximum period of 8 years.

The Swiss society of Agronomy (SSA) covers arable, forage and horticultural crops and has its focus on the following topics:

  • Plant breeding and genetic resources
  • Sustainable Cultivation Systems
  • Product Quality
  • Crop physiology

On the national level, the SSA aims to strengthen agricultural research within a national network of societies such as the Society of Phytopathology, Soil Science Society and the Swiss Society for Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. SSA is a sustaining member of the European Society of Agronomy and the International Society for Horticultural Science.
